Some Random lines on a paper

There was a time when I had a lot of time at my hands, time enough to paint and sketch. And then life happened.
I shifted home a year back. The most heart-strumming experince of moving a house is that all your memories which you have stacked away in boxes come tumbling out. You past dances a full-monty and your brain pulls out images which you thought were lost somewhere. So, as I picked up these sketches from a cardboard box ten years after they were made, there was a smile on my face remembering a life that seems like a forgotten dream now.
When I made these sketches, I thought they were perfect but now I can see the mistakes I have made. Urmila’s eyes need more work and Sridevi looks like a cross between herself and Divya Bharti. Raveena’s lips look as if she is straining them against a glass window and Aamir does not have teeth.
But let me not bore you with the nitty-gritty. Go ahead and enjoy these wisps of my memories.

Rekha

If you liked the sketches, you might also like a few of my paintings.
Before you leave, I have a few more things to say. A few days back, I was given two blog awards. I haven’t thanked the bloggers who gave me those awards, so here goes –

Ricky gave me the Liebester award a few weeks back.
Sapna gave me the Best Blog of 2012 award.

liebster-awardblog of the year

Thank you Sapna and Rickie for all the praise and considering my blog. Both of you made my day.

And in the end, please do not forget to promote my story idea for the Get Published contest on Indiblogger sponsered by Harper Collins by pressing the Like button on this link –

  1. Rekha and Kajol are simply awesome… You sketch so well. I don’t know the nitty gritties but I liked how these looked.

    Voting done sir already 🙂

Off to seeing your paintings now 🙂

  2. OMG!! Aweesomeeee sketches!! I think sketching portraits is the toughest thing to do. Wow!!
And the paintings are even more beauuuutiful! Especially the cup of nature and the thirsty sun… just beautiful. Don’t tell me u’ve stopped painting.. that would be sad.

    • Thanks Punam. Errr…I don’t know if it is tough or not but I do take a lot of time to create one. 🙂 Surprisingly, I cannot sketch a live person sitting in front of me. Guess, it is because no one can sit that still. 🙂
I haven’t painted since the last 10 years but there is a bare wall in my new house that is very tempting.

    • Thanks Giribala.
Hahaha! No, they haven’t! I thought it would be better if I put up their names instead of people coming to me and asking embarrasing questions like – who is this? 🙂

  3. Oh My!! Amit. i didn’t not know you had this extra talent. The sketches are so good. But you are right about Sridevi…hehe..and who’s the 2nd one? I like drawing and painting but I could never draw faces properly. 😦

    • Thanks Latha. 🙂 Yes, everyone who has seen Sridevi’s sketch think that she is Divya Bharti. I have had major discussions with people on that. Of course, I think she is Sridevi because she is Sridevi. 🙂
I think we all have different talents in painting as well. Some people draw landscapes very well while some can draw faces.

    • I haven’t picked up the brush from the last 10 years but I am having this urge from some time now. Time of course is the main villian in my story.
Thank you for liking the story. Oh no! It is a serious one. That was one horrible experience I would like to forget.

    • Thanks Harikishna. 🙂 There are so many things to do in life and I don’t have time. I guess none of us have. There is talent in everyone of us.

    • Thanks Priya. Yes, I have to find time. I have already squeezed in exercising, reading, blogging, watching movies and writing in my jampacked schedule. I need to add painting and PS3 to it. Then my life would be complete. And my wife would beat the shit out of me. 😛

      • Tell me about it! I am really struggling with time management issues these days :(. With two kids, one dog, a husband, a home and my professional work, I am wading in huge problems of staying organized and finding time for everything.

          • I work from home though that has its own issues but commute is not one of them. How about renting a place close to your place of work. Here in Bangalore, people put their own houses on rent and find a rented place close to their workplace. It is a nightmare on the roads here, and we don’t have Metro yet :(. I really hate driving in such crazy traffic conditions :(.

            • I can’t even think of living in a rented apartment anymore. I have been doing that from the last 6 years and I now I really want the stability of living in my own home. I will rather try to bring my office near my house. 🙂
I have a office bus, so I do not have to stand and travel or drive myself which is a relief.

  4. Wow!! This is awesome stuff!! Don’t kid yourself.

Loved Rekha the best. Love the emphasis on Kajol’s eyes… bushy eyebrows in tact! 🙂
I can see why you said Sreedevi and Urmila look like they need a bit more work on them. But I had no trouble recognizing any of them! 🙂

Err… except the second one. Looks like a cross between Shamita and Shilpa Shetty. Don’t know, maybe my amateur eyes need some work! 😛

My vote is anyway for you.. no two words there!

    • Hahaha! Thanks. No kidding. 😛
I think the way we can identify Mahatma Gandhi by the outline of a sketch, people will identify Kajol in the future with only a pair of joined eyebrows on a paper.
The second one is Shilpa. Do not forget that this is Shilpa 10 years ago. She wasn’t two dimensional then. 😛
      Thanks Ash. 🙂

    • Yeah, Rekha was the last one I made. By then I had a more steady hand and knew where I made mistakes. I was happy with Rekha. 🙂
      Thanks Scribblehappy. 🙂

  5. wow.. nice sketches.. i remember doing everything in the drawing, keeping the face blank.. it took me years to get courage to draw the face.. :). but it became a style in my college days, not to draw the face, but complete the drawing.. :)..

    • Thanks Ashreyamom. During my training in my present company, I got famous in my batch for writing names with human figures. I used to have a stack of files to take home to write names. Funny days those were. 🙂

  6. Awesome sketches Amit. Rekha is the best and her jwellery the bestest. Your paintings are also tooooo good. ‘The cup of nature’ (the tiger in it is so real) and ‘drinking the mirror’ are awesome.

    • Yes, I like cooking new dishes. I usually experiment during weekends. And I can shop. I can’t tell you how I have followed Geet like a dog for hours while shopping. 😀 I have acted as a walking hanger too.

  7. I knew you are the master of pen on paper, but never knew the list includes pencil and paint too. Amazing observation and reproduction of minute details, both in these portraits and also in the paintings.
Need a super-like button for the painting post 🙂

  8. You’ve done full justice to Rekha’s sketch. In fact, all them are pretty decent sketches, expect Raveena who looks like Snow White’s long lost sistah!

    • Thanks Purba. Yeah, I know. Her hairstyle gives that impression. And she looks like as if she is sliding down a wall of glass with the help of her lips.

  9. We only knew as a talented writer but what an artist you are?? I am truly amazed! You also cook don’t you? You have an impeccable sense of humor…. I am just curious do you have an unmarried brother who has all the above qualities??? 😀

    • I like cooking but only when I am trying something new. 🙂
And unfortunately I don’t have an unmarried brother but a sister who is poles apart and very very lazy. 🙂
Thanks for all the praise metherebel. 🙂

    • These are all from Filmfare. I was a Filmfare addict ever since the magazine used to cost 15 rupees. 🙂
Filmfare used to have the most amazing photoshoots of Rekha. The photographs were a class apart.

    • Thanks Afshan for giving me this award. 🙂
And of course it matters to me that people like what I write. Believe me, even if there is a single person who likes what I write, it makes me happy. 🙂

  10. OMG… multi-talented people…Engineer, awesome writer and now these sketches…!!! Really good work, specially Rekha, its great..! Off to see your paintings… good lord.. how do you manage all your talents?
